Masta Ace stands as one of rap’s great anomalies. The Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York artist emerged in the late 1980s, delivering next-level rhymes as part of Marley Marl’s Juice Crew with Big Daddy Kane, Biz Markie, Kool G. Rap, and others. After his 1990 debut album, he then released in 1993 a sobering treatise on gangster rap and its impact on America with his SlaughtaHouse project before melding an East Coast sensibility with the South and West Coast’s affinity for car culture with 1995’s revolutionary, forward-thinking Sittin’ On Chrome album. Yet it was Masta Ace’s next series of musical moves that truly cemented his status as one of rap’s iconic acts. In 2001, Ace released Disposable Arts, an exceptional look at rap’s evolution, exploitation, and appropriation. His subsequent projects – 2004’s A Long Hot Summer, 2012’s MA_DOOM: Son of Yvonne and collaborative projects with eMC, Ed O.G., and others – provided Masta Ace a new platform to tour the world and become a rapper whose catalog is appreciated by different generations of fans for dramatically different reasons. “My longevity can only be attributed to the music I have dropped since 2001,” Masta Ace says. “Those subsequent albums have garnered a whole new legion of fans for me. Typically your fan base grows old with you. My fan base has also grown younger with me. Having young fans show up at soundcheck to get an autograph because they are too young to get into the club for the show says it all.”

An accomplished master in the marriage of rhythm and flow, Chip Fu is one of the few underground composers and performers dedicated to spreading the indubitable significance of Hip-Hop and Reggae music. “Those who listen to what’s mainstream and call it Hip-Hop are sadly misled”, the Brooklyn native once stated in an interview. “My objective is and always has been to abstain from cookie cutter material. The public needs something fresh. Organic. Real.” A universal storyteller and lyrical engineer, Chip’s high mark does not revolve around creating a simple song. His primary ambition is to deliver an art piece that is then transformed into an audible experience for anyone who listens. As a result of this implemented philosophy, Chip Fu has accomplished the meticulous feat of delivering flavorful, wisdom-laced messages without sacrificing a drop of authenticity. To sharpen his wits, Chip began aligning himself with other like-minded individuals and professionals who shared his passion for music as an art form. This paved the way for his alliance with East Flatbush lyricists Joe and Lennox in the early 1990’s, and together they formed the Hip-Hop trio “Fu-Schnickens”. Throughout the group experience Chip continued to hone his skills as an artist and performer by learning the in’s and outs of the music business. The group’s pinnacle came with the release of “What’s Up Doc? (Can We Rock)” in 1993 which featured basketball star Shaquille O’Neal and was named a Top 40 hit for the summer. However, after the release of their second album “Nervous Breakdown”, Fu-Schnickens made the amicable decision to part ways in 1996 to pursue individual creative endeavors. After two gold albums and a platinum single and album for writing and working with Shaq and other artists, it was natural for Chip to want to create and release albums under his own record label and film production company appropriately coined BLAQ-INK MG. Through this endeavor the company focused on writing and producing for other artists as well. Although there were times where commitment to truth meant surviving the uphill trudge, Chip Fu’s key strategy to remain true to the art of Hip-Hop allowed for his future to take care of itself. As if his popularity had not already reached its head, Chip found himself in even higher demand as a guest artist working with the likes of Pete Rock, Vinnie Pazz, Ali Shaheed (Tribe Called Quest, Lucy Pearl, D’Angelo), TheARE (Keyshia Cole, Lil’ Kim), Needlez (50 Cent & Ludacris), S1 (Kanye West’s Power), !LLMiND (Sean Price, 50 Cent), Busta Rhymes, Jim Jones, Sean Price, and Rapsody . Chip Fu’s contributions quickly garnered a loyal underground fan base. A group of followers who understood the value of his sound in a climate where music had become less than conducive to the survival of Hip-Hop’s origins. The BLAQ-INK army continued to saturate the virtual realm with Chip Fu’s past and current work and in turn attracting a new age group of followers. Chip’s exclusive online release of “Love Me Sensi” accompanied by the official YouTube video attracted more than 500,000 unique hits in its first month of release . Following that video Chip Recently did a song called “How Low the Casket Goes” Featuring Heavy newcomers and spitters such as Rapsody and Prayah. The BLAQ-INK label plans to continue their work in re-establishing the heart of American Hip-Hop and Reggae through the release of Chip Fu’s forthcoming album. Chip Fu states “As long as I’m being true to myself and my loyal fan base.. that’s what means the most to me”.

Rah Digga (born Rashia Fisher in Newark, New Jersey in December 12, 1972) is an American rapper. A member of the Flipmode Squad, a hip hop crew led by Busta Rhymes, she is one of modern hip hop’s most respected female artists.

A New Jersey native, Rah Digga attended private school in Maryland where she graduated as salutatorian, then studied electrical engineering at the New Jersey Institute Of Technology. She started rapping after being inspired by artists of hip hop’s “golden age” such as Rakim, Kool G. Rap and Queen Latifah, eventually joining the group Twice the Flavor and then Jersey’s Outsidaz clique. A Tribe Called Quest’s Q-Tip negotiated her a deal with Elektra Records after being impressed by a performance at New York City’s Lyricist Lounge (at which time Digga was eight months pregnant). Q-Tip also introduced her to Busta Rhymes, who invited her to join his newly-formed Flipmode Squad crew. The deal with Elektra soon collapsed however and Digga signed to Flipmode Entertainment. She made guest appearanes on Busta’s 1997 album When Disaster Strikes as well as the Lyricist Lounge, Vol. 1 compilation (on the track “Be OK”, a two-hander with Bahamadia), the first installment of the Hip Hop For Respect anti-police brutality project in memory of Amadou Diallo, and the Fugees track “Cowboys”, before joining up with the Flipmode Squad for The Imperial Album (1998). Anticipation mounted for further output, and she recorded tracks with legendary producers Pete Rock and DJ Premier. These and others were included on her solo album Dirty Harriet in 2000.

The follow-up to Dirty Harriet was originally intended to be a duet album with Digga’s husband, Young Zee of the Outsidaz. However, this was eventually put on hold for a fully-fledged solo album. However, it was long delayed, partly due to Digga switching labels from J Records to the independent Koch Records; currently a February 2006 release is planned, with the album titled Sucker Free. A single, which may or may not resurface on the album, is “Party Gets Hot Tonight” featuring Akon. Her follow up album that was supposed to be released on J Records was titled Everything Is a Story, and was originally scheduled to be released February 10, 2004. During the time between her first and second solo albums Digga made numerous high-profile guest appearances, including on Busta Rhymes’ hit single “I Know What You Want” and on albums by Talib Kweli, Bless, Masta Ace and Jamelia.

Rah Digga can be seen in Busta’s latest (and polemical) video, “Touch It Remix”, that features Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Lloyd Banks, Papoose and DMX.

Rah Digga also stars as (Maggie Bess) in the 2001 re-make of the sci-fi chiller Thirteen Ghosts

Real Name: Lolita Shante Gooden / Born: November 9 1969, Queens NY USA

Shante came to prominence at the tender age of 14 via her related answer record to U.T.F.O.’s 1984 rap hit, ‘ Roxanne, Roxanne’. Gooden was walking outside a New York housing project when she overheard three men discussing U.T.F.O.’s cancellation of a show they were promoting. In turn gooden offered them a reply record. The onlookers, DJ Mister Magic, Tyrone Williams and Marley Marl took her up on the offer.

Her version ‘Roxanne’s Revenge’ mixed sassy, indignant raps with a funky backbeat. It was a massive hit, which sold over a quarter of a million copies in the New York area alone, and spawned a flood of answerback records (well over a hundred at the final count), as rappers queued to take up the challenge. U.T.F.O. replied by sueing her for using their b-side as the rhythm track.

Shante was still only 14 years old, and forced to stay away form school because of all the attention. Her arrival was cemented by further singles ‘Have A Nice Day’ and ‘Go On Girl’, produced by Marley Marl, with lyrics penned by Big Daddy Kane. Her debut album saw the conscious rhymes of songs like ‘Independent Woman’ (though it was written for her by a man) spliced by saucy narratives like ‘Feeling Kinda Horny’.

By 1986, Shante was being edged from the centre of the female rap stage by The Real Roxanne (Adelaida Martinez) and her turntable wizard Hitman Howie Tee. Perhaps her most infamous post-‘Roxanne’ moment came with the release of ‘Big Mama’, which would see her take out her frustrations by dissing other female rappers Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Yo Yo and Monie Love.

Kwamé Holland – pronounced kwah-MAY – born in East Elmhurst, Queens, New York, USA) is an American emcee who enjoyed brief popularity in the late-1980s and early-1990s. He is currently a music producer sometimes credited as K-1 Million or K1 Mil.

As a child, Holland was inspired by Stevie Wonder, Lionel Hampton, and Abdullah Ibrahim, who were family friends.

He was sixteen when he released his debut album Kwamé the Boy Genius Featuring A New Beginning in 1989, which he produced himself. Hurby “Luv Bug” Azor (who also managed Salt-N-Pepa, Kid-N-Play) played the role of manager. A New Beginning was his backing band and Kwamé was one of the rare emcees at the time to use a live band. The album spawned the singles “The Man We All Know and Love” and “The Rhythm.” The accompanying music videos featured a polka-dot motif in the costumes and production design. This was to become Kwamé’s trademark and started a hip hop fashion trend as fans began wearing polka-dotted clothing. In 1990, his second album A Day in the Life: A Pokadelick Adventure was released. It was a concept album about a day in the life of a high school student. The album spawned the hit singles “Oneovdabigboiz” and “Ownlee Eue.” Holland is a cousin of Vin Diesel, who danced in some of his early music videos.

In 1992, he released his third album Nastee. The title track was a minor hit but the album quickly fell from the charts. His fourth album, 1994’s Incognito failed to chart and Kwamé was dropped from his record label.

In 2002, Kwamé reemerged as a music producer. He continues to work steadily as a producer with his current artists Beyond Belief and Profit and has since returned to using his real name. New R&B/Hip Hop singer Jamie Jones started a form of introduction to Kwame’s production by whispering ‘Shh, Kwame did it’, which Fantasia used for “not the way that I do” and Jesse McCartney took for his song Makeup which appears on his album Departure.

Kwame has scored scenes for the films Step up, Step up 2, The Streets Dancing in September and Stomp the Yard

To date, he has Produced and contributed to records selling over 30 million copies.

Kwamé is currently crafting the sound for Atlantic Records recording artist Lauriana Mae, and has also joined the classic hip hop group the Alumni (Hip Hop Elite), which is composed of Chubb Rock, Dana Dane, Special Ed, and Monie Love.

In 2012, Kwamé teamed up with Vin Diesel to help score his web series The Ropes. He also formed the boutique label Make Noise, which features the artist Beyond Belief, which released its debut album in 2009 titled What About Bob?.

In 2012, Kwamé released an instrumental album on his Make Noise label that was titled BreakBeat Diaries.

Kwamé is an avid toy collector and also has a company and Website called www.Geekmodeonline.com, which showcases original content and all things comic book-related.
